This section is part of a broader project evaluating Seoul’s greenbelt from both preservation and development perspectives. My contribution analyzed the economic and commuting-related costs imposed by the current greenbelt configuration. Using secondary data sources, the study quantified commuting distances, modal splits, and unit transport costs to estimate the total daily and annual commuting burden attributable to the greenbelt. The results reveal that while the greenbelt offers environmental benefits, it also generates substantial economic inefficiencies, supporting the argument that existing regulations should be reconsidered and potentially reformed rather than preserved in their current form.
